Growth In 1925 two major changes occurred: Mr Temple retired from the business; Britain came off the gold standard and due to exchange rate changes, Sandy Burnet decided it was more economic to manufacture hairnets in England. At this time the company gained its own legal status as A Burnet & Company Limited. The French supplier of hairnets was invited over to England and a joint owned subsidiary company was formed to manufacture hairnets in Nottingham, the heart of the textile knitting industry in England. The company grew and began exporting hairnets and associated haberdashery lines throughout the world. Lace and chord production were also started under new subsidiary companies. From the 1960s changing lifestyles, expectations, distribution channels and the introduction of perming caused the company's markets to decline. The company consolidated its position, closing its London offices, concentrating its activities around the two freehold manufacturing sites in Nottingham and Derby. In 1980 the company and remaining group businesses were consolidated under the single company of Aburnet Limited. In 1983 the company began warping yarns for other lace companies, developing this activity and merchanting yarns to the Nottingham lace industry. At the same time the food industry started using hairnets to safeguard food production from hair contamination. Aburnet Limited developed new hairnet products targeting this market offering an ex-stock service. In the mid 1990s, hairnet production went through a 'Best-Cost' practice review. All manufacturing materials and operations now add value in the consumer's eyes to the finished product. New differentiated packaging including a dispenser for the food industry was introduced and new lines added. The
